BIO

For years my mother consistently told me I started to play the ukulele when I was 5 years young.  Ukulele were so common in Hawaii I assume I initially took it to be a toy.  From my initial exposure up to today, including ALL practice sessions, ukulele has always been FUN.

In junior high school, I remember music had started to become a serious interest and I got involved in band, glee clubs and organizing musical combos.  This continued through high school and college, resulting in a Bachelor of Arts degree in music (choral conducting).  I LOVE choirs and church music.  This degree plus my relevant experience in music has taught me there is no substitute for organized, effective practice.  Combining this with my love of ukulele (and guitar) brought fun to those many practice sessions.  As I continue to nurture my interest and knowledge, I’ve also embraced teaching as a means of sharing and helping YOU enhance your own interest in music and ukulele.

The threat of being drafted put a real crimp in my budding musical career so I joined the US Air Force, decided I loved it, became a pilot and turned aviation into an alternate career.  What I did had such a significant, relevant impact to my continuing musical development.  Flying airplanes responsibly requires very disciplined training attitudes and it was so appropriate and effective to permit these attitudes to embrace the very same approach to musical training and development.

After retirement from the Air National Guard, I recorded a ukulele CD (Eminent Ukulele) and shared publication of a Hawaiian songbook (He Mele Aloha) as one of four authors.  I’ve also shared inception of a non-profit organization, Pacific Music Foundation, whose mission statement is to facilitate music that SOOTHES.  Pacific Music Foundation has produced a wonderful CD titled:  Ho’omalie ----- Only You.  Our purpose in producing this work was to portray Hawaiian music in a style that SOOTHES.

Years of musical experiences teaching and playing throughout the world have consistently shown me what I most enjoy about music and ukulele is being a part of music’s creative process.  That’s the fun part and I have a decided notion this is the fun part of YOUR interest in ukulele.  The process massages the soul.  I am familiar with using ukulele and other musical strategies to facilitate this process for YOU and am anxious to share EVERYTHING with YOU that has been shared with me.

In music/ukulele, I play (and able to go much beyond C, F and G7), sing, teach, am recorded, published and play an integral role in the operation of an IRS-recognized non-profit organization (Pacific Music Foundation).

How can I best harness these experiences to help YOU nurture your interest in ukulele?
